Readings for the Memorial of Saint Catherine of Siena, virgin and doctor of the ChurchReading 1 Acts 14:5-18 There was an attempt in Iconiumby both the Gentiles and the Jews, together with their leaders,to attack and stone Paul and Barnabas. They realized it,and fled to the Lycaonian cities of Lystra and Derbeand to the surrounding countryside, where they continued to proclaim the Good News.At Lystra there was a crippled man, lame from birth, who had never walked. He listened to Paul speaking, who looked intently at him,saw that he had the faith to be healed, and called out in a loud voice, "Stand up straight on your feet."He jumped up and began to walk about. When the crowds saw what Paul had done, they cried out in Lycaonian,"The gods have come down to us in human form." They called Barnabas "Zeus" and Paul "Hermes,"because he was the chief speaker. And the priest of Zeus, whose temple was at the entrance to the city, brought oxen and garlands

Reading 1 Acts 9:26-31 When Saul arrived in Jerusalem he tried to join the disciples, but they were all afraid of him,not believing that he was a disciple. Then Barnabas took charge of him and brought him to the apostles, and he reported to them how he had seen the Lord, and that he had spoken to him,and how in Damascus he had spoken out boldly in the name of Jesus. He moved about freely with them in Jerusalem, and spoke out boldly in the name of the Lord.He also spoke and debated with the Hellenists, but they tried to kill him.And when the brothers learned of this, they took him down to Caesareaand sent him on his way to Tarsus. The church throughout all Judea, Galilee, and Samaria was at peace. It was being built up and walked in the fear of the Lord, and with the consolation of the Holy Spirit it grew in numbers. Responsorial Psalm Ps 22:26-27, 28, 30, 31-32 R. (26a) I will praise you, Lord, in the assembly of your people.or:R. Alleluia.I will fulfill my vows

Reading 1 Acts 13:44-52 On the following sabbathalmost the whole citygathered to hear the word of the Lord. When the Jews saw the crowds, they were filled with jealousyand with violent abuse contradicted what Paul said. Both Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly and said,“It was necessary that the word of God be spoken to you first, but since you reject itand condemn yourselves as unworthy of eternal life,we now turn to the Gentiles. For so the Lord has commanded us,I have made you a light to the Gentiles, that you may be an instrument of salvationto the ends of the earth.”The Gentiles were delighted when they heard thisand glorified the word of the Lord. All who were destined for eternal life came to believe, and the word of the Lord continued to spreadthrough the whole region. The Jews, however, incited the women of prominence who were worshipersand the leading men of the city, stirred up a persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and expelled them from their territo

Reading I Acts 13:26-33 When Paul came to Antioch in Pisidia, he said in the synagogue: “My brothers, children of the family of Abraham, and those others among you who are God-fearing, to us this word of salvation has been sent. The inhabitants of Jerusalem and their leaders failed to recognize him, and by condemning him they fulfilled the oracles of the prophets that are read sabbath after sabbath. For even though they found no grounds for a death sentence, they asked Pilate to have him put to death, and when they had accomplished all that was written about him, they took him down from the tree and placed him in a tomb. But God raised him from the dead, and for many days he appeared to those who had come up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem. These are now his witnesses before the people. We ourselves are proclaiming this good news to you that what God promised our fathers he has brought to fulfillment for us, their children, by raising up Jesus, as it

Reading 1 1 Pt 5:5b-14 Beloved: Clothe yourselves with humilityin your dealings with one another, for:God opposes the proudbut bestows favor on the humble. So humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God,that he may exalt you in due time.Cast all your worries upon him because he cares for you.Be sober and vigilant.Your opponent the Devil is prowling around like a roaring lionlooking for someone to devour.Resist him, steadfast in faith, knowing that your brothers and sisters throughout the worldundergo the same sufferings. The God of all gracewho called you to his eternal glory through Christ Jesuswill himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish youafter you have suffered a little. To him be dominion forever. Amen.I write you this briefly through Silvanus, whom I consider a faithful brother, exhorting you and testifying that this is the true grace of God.Remain firm in it.The chosen one at Babylon sends you greeting, as does Mark, my son.G

Reading I Acts 12:24—13:5a The word of God continued to spread and grow. After Barnabas and Saul completed their relief mission, they returned to Jerusalem, taking with them John, who is called Mark. Now there were in the Church at Antioch prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Symeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen who was a close friend of Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” Then, completing their fasting and prayer, they laid hands on them and sent them off. So they, sent forth by the Holy Spirit, went down to Seleucia and from there sailed to Cyprus. When they arrived in Salamis, they proclaimed the word of God in the Jewish synagogues. Responsorial Psalm 67:2-3, 5, 6 and 8 R. (4) O God, let all the nations praise you! or: R.&n

Reading 1 Acts 11:1-18 The Apostles and the brothers who were in Judeaheard that the Gentiles too had accepted the word of God. So when Peter went up to Jerusalemthe circumcised believers confronted him, saying,'You entered the house of uncircumcised people and ate with them." Peter began and explained it to them step by step, saying,"I was at prayer in the city of Joppawhen in a trance I had a vision, something resembling a large sheet coming down, lowered from the sky by its four corners, and it came to me. Looking intently into it,I observed and saw the four-legged animals of the earth, the wild beasts, the reptiles, and the birds of the sky. I also heard a voice say to me, 'Get up, Peter. Slaughter and eat.' But I said, 'Certainly not, sir, because nothing profane or unclean has ever entered my mouth.' Reading 1 Acts 9:31-42 The Church throughout all Judea, Galilee, and Samariawas at peace. She was being built up and walked in the fear of the Lord, and with the consolation of the Holy Spirit she grew in numbers. As Peter was passing through every region,he went down to the holy ones living in Lydda. There he found a man named Aeneas, who had been confined to bed for eight years, for he was paralyzed. Peter said to him,"Aeneas, Jesus Christ heals you. Get up and make your bed." He got up at once. And all the inhabitants of Lydda and Sharon saw him,and they turned to the Lord. Now in Joppa there was a disciple named Tabitha(which translated is Dorcas). She was completely occupied with good deeds and almsgiving. Now during those days she fell sick and died,so after washing her, they laid her out in a room upstairs. Since Lydda was near Joppa, the disciples, hearing that Peter was there, sent two men to him with the request,"Please come to us without delay.&q
